During the ceremony of the
openning of the match for the world title between
the World Champion Garry Kasparov and a
challenger Vladimir Kramnik a famous russian
sculptor and chess designer Oleg Raikis was
introduced by the organizer of the match Sir
Jeremy Hanley. Sir Jeremy Hanley also introduced
a unique chess set " Flowers" , made by
Oleg Raikis, to the participants of the ceremony.
The set is made of mammoth ivory and rare sort of
wood - bokaut. Afterwards the sculptor presented
the champion and the challenger with chess
designs, dedicated to them.
Oleg Raikis is a russian
sculptor, specializing in the fields of work with
mammoth ivory, walrus, amber, hard wood. He has
created a big amount of pieces of art: author
sculptures and chess sets, which belong to
collections of famous people and collectors all
over the world. Some of his works are exhibited
at the Gallery of Cees Hogendoorn ( Amsterdam ).
He is famous not only to collectors of modern art
and to collectors of antique as an expert and
restorer. Oleg Raikis is a member of Internationl
Federation of Artists (UNESCO), Chess Collectors
International, International Art Fund.
